An adaptation of Atlee's 2016 Tamil hit Theri, Baby John has received positive to mixed reviews from the audiences.
Headlined by Varun Dhawan in his most massiest avatar, Baby John has finally been released in the theatres on December 25 on Christmas. The mass commercial actioner also features Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, Jackie Shroff, and Rajpal Yadav in the leading roles with a special Salman Khan cameo in the post climax scene.
As per the early estimates from the entertainment tracking portal Sacnilk, Baby John has earned Rs 12.50 crore on its opening day. This is Varun's biggest opening in the last five years. His 2019 release Kalank, which was a multi-starrer with Alia Bhatt, Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sonakshi Sinha, had earned Rs 21.60 crore on its opening day in 2019. Varun's last few theatrical releases Street Dancer 3D (2020), Jug Jugg Jeeyo (2022), and Bhediya (2022) had failed to get a double-digit opening. Baby John is facing stiff competition from Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, Fahadh Faasil-starrer Pushpa 2: The Rule, which had released on December 5. In its third week, the pan-India actioner earned Rs 15 crore on Wednesday on the occasion of Christmas. Pushpa 2 has already earned over Rs 700 crore net in its dubbed Hindi version.
With the New Year festive season beginning from Christmas, it will be interesting to see how Baby John fares at the box office from now in its extended opening weekend. The Varun Dhawan-starrer is backed by Atlee and Priya Atlee, Murad Khetani, and Jyoti Deshpande under their banners A For Apple Studios, Cine1 Studios, and Jio Studios.
