Adjusting the height and reach of the steering wheel in a Mercedes-AMG vehicle ensures a comfortable and ergonomic driving position, allowing you to achieve better control and comfort. Most modern Mercedes-AMG models come with an adjustable steering wheel that offers both height and reach adjustments to suit different driving preferences. Here’s how to adjust the steering wheel in most Mercedes-AMG vehicles:

1. Locate the Adjustment Mechanism

The steering wheel adjustment mechanism is typically located beneath the steering column, on the left side of the steering wheel. Look for a lever or knob that is used to unlock or adjust the position of the steering wheel.

2. Adjusting the Steering Wheel Height

  • Step 1: Release the Lever/Knob
Pull the lever or turn the knob to release the steering wheel from its locked position. Some vehicles may have a lever that you need to pull, while others might require you to rotate a knob.
  • Step 2: Move the Steering Wheel
After releasing the lever or knob, adjust the height of the steering wheel by either raising or lowering it to your preferred position. The steering wheel should move along a vertical axis.
  • Step 3: Lock the Position
Once you’ve adjusted the wheel to the desired height, release the lever or rotate the knob back to its original position to lock the wheel into place. Make sure the steering wheel is secure and doesn’t move when you apply pressure to it.

3. Adjusting the Steering Wheel Reach

  • Step 1: Release the Lever/Knob Again
If the reach (the distance between you and the steering wheel) is adjustable, it will be controlled by the same lever or knob you used for height adjustment.
  • Step 2: Move the Steering Wheel Inward or Outward
Slide the steering wheel forward or backward to adjust the reach. You can make the wheel closer to you or further away, depending on your preference for comfort and control.
  • Step 3: Lock the Position
After adjusting the reach, lock the wheel back into place by securing the lever or knob. Ensure it’s fully locked to prevent any movement while driving.

4. Check the Position

After adjusting both the height and reach of the steering wheel:

  • Ensure Comfort: The top of the steering wheel should be at or just below your eye level, with your arms slightly bent when holding the wheel. Your hands should comfortably grip the wheel at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions.
  • Check for Visibility: Ensure that the dashboard, gauges, and controls are fully visible while driving.
  • Ensure Ease of Operation: Make sure that you can operate the steering wheel without straining your arms or shoulders and that it does not obstruct any controls or visibility.

5. Memory Function (If Equipped)

Some high-end Mercedes-AMG models feature a memory function for the steering wheel position, along with seat adjustments.

  • Step 1: After adjusting the steering wheel, press the memory button (usually located on the door panel or the side of the seat).
  • Step 2: Hold the button until you hear a confirmation sound. This saves the current steering wheel position.
  • Step 3: You can recall the position by pressing the memory button again, allowing multiple drivers to store their preferred settings.

Important Notes:

  • Do Not Adjust While Driving: Always adjust the steering wheel while the vehicle is stationary to avoid distractions or accidents.
  • Make Sure It’s Secure: Ensure the steering wheel is firmly locked in place before driving. If it is not properly secured, it may move while driving, compromising safety and control.

By following these steps, you can adjust the height and reach of the steering wheel in your Mercedes-AMG vehicle for a personalized and comfortable driving experience.
