To enable Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) in a Mercedes-Benz or AMG vehicle, follow these general steps. The process may vary slightly depending on the model year or trim, but the key steps remain consistent across most vehicles.

Steps to Enable Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC):

  1. Ensure the Vehicle is in Drive Mode:
    • Make sure your vehicle is in Drive (D) mode and moving at a speed of at least 20-30 mph.
  2. Locate the Cruise Control Stalk or Buttons:
    • The cruise control stalk is typically found on the left side of the steering wheel or steering column. In some vehicles, the controls may be integrated into the steering wheel buttons.
  3. Activate Cruise Control:
    • Press the "ON" or "CRUISE" button to power on the system. This will turn on the cruise control but in a regular mode.
  4. Set Your Speed:
    • Once the system is on, press the "SET" button to set your desired speed. The car will begin maintaining this speed as you drive.
  5. Activate Adaptive Cruise Control:
    • Press the ACC button or turn the distance adjustment dial to switch to Adaptive Cruise Control mode.
    • The system should automatically adjust your vehicle's speed to maintain a safe distance from the car ahead, using sensors like radar and cameras.
  6. Adjust Distance Settings:
    • Most vehicles with ACC allow you to adjust the following distance (e.g., far, medium, close) using a distance control button or lever on the steering wheel.
    • Choose the level that suits your driving preference.
  7. Monitor the System:
    • Once activated, the system will automatically adjust speed based on traffic conditions. It will slow down if the vehicle ahead is too close and accelerate when the road clears.
    • If the system detects that the vehicle in front is no longer there, it will resume your preset speed.
  8. Disengage ACC:
    • To turn off Adaptive Cruise Control, press the "CANCEL" or "OFF" button, or manually tap the brake or accelerator pedal. You can also disengage it by shifting the car into neutral or park mode.

Notes:

  • Radar and Sensors: The ACC system relies on sensors and cameras to detect the distance and speed of vehicles ahead. Make sure these are not obstructed (e.g., by dirt or snow).
  • Speed Limit: Some vehicles allow the ACC system to adapt to speed limits, adjusting automatically when you approach a speed limit sign.
  • Manual Adjustments: You can usually override the system by accelerating or braking manually if needed.

Always refer to your vehicle's owner's manual for specific instructions, as the button layout or functionality may differ slightly depending on your model.
