To enable Hill Descent Control (HDC) from the AMG steering wheel, follow these steps:

1. Ensure the Vehicle is in Off-Road Mode (if applicable)

  • Many AMG vehicles equipped with Hill Descent Control (HDC) also have a dedicated off-road mode or AMG Off-Road package.
  • To activate Hill Descent Control, first ensure that the vehicle is in an off-road driving mode. You can do this by using the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT system to select an off-road or all-terrain mode (if your vehicle is equipped with one). For some models, this mode might be labeled Off-Road or Trail.

2. Locate the Hill Descent Control Button

  • While Hill Descent Control is often controlled via a specific button or switch in the center console or dashboard, some AMG steering wheels may feature a button or shortcut to access this function.
  • The Hill Descent Control button is often labeled with an icon representing a downward arrow on a slope, or it may simply say HDC or Hill Descent.

3. Activate Hill Descent Control

  • If your vehicle supports it, Hill Descent Control may be activated by pressing the dedicated HDC button on the steering wheel (if available) or another location in the cabin.
  • In most vehicles, once activated, the system will automatically control the braking and throttle to maintain a safe speed while descending steep grades. The system will keep the vehicle at a consistent speed, generally between 5-20 km/h (3-12 mph), depending on the terrain.
  • Hill Descent Control ensures that the vehicle doesn’t accelerate too quickly when going down a slope, providing better control in off-road environments.

4. Verify Activation

  • After activating the system, check the instrument cluster or MBUX display for a notification that Hill Descent Control is active. A symbol or message may appear indicating that the system is engaged and ready to assist with downhill control.
  • If the system does not engage, the vehicle may not be in the proper mode (such as Off-Road or Terrain), or the feature may be deactivated by default.

5. Adjust as Needed

  • If your vehicle has adjustable parameters, you may be able to fine-tune the Hill Descent Control settings using the MBUX multimedia system or via additional buttons on the steering wheel or dashboard.
  • Some models also have options to disable HDC if you prefer to manually control the vehicle’s descent.

6. Drive with Caution

  • Hill Descent Control is best used in off-road or rough-terrain conditions where the gradient of the hill is steep enough that you require automatic braking assistance. Ensure you are on an appropriate trail or terrain when activating this feature.
  • While HDC can make it easier to descend safely on steep hills, always ensure your speed and handling are appropriate for the conditions.

Summary:

To activate Hill Descent Control, ensure that your vehicle is in an off-road driving mode (if necessary), locate and press the HDC button on the steering wheel (if available), or use the vehicle's center console button. The system will then automatically regulate speed and braking for safe downhill driving. Always verify that the system is active via the instrument cluster and use it in appropriate off-road conditions.
