Mahindra Unveils BE 6e and XEV 9e: Its First Ground-Up Electric SUVs

New Delhi: Mahindra & Mahindra has entered the electric SUV market with the launch of its first ground-up EVs, the BE 6e and XEV 9e, priced at ₹18.9 lakh and ₹21.9 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. These SUVs mark the beginning of Mahindra’s ambitious plan to launch six EVs under the BE and XEV brands by 2028.

Key Highlights

  • Pricing Strategy: Positioned competitively, these EVs are benchmarked against India's popular mid- and premium ICE SUVs, aiming to attract value-conscious buyers while offering a premium experience.
  • Performance:
    • BE 6e: Offers a certified range of 682km.
    • XEV 9e: Provides a range of 656km.
    • Both are powered by lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries with fast charging, allowing 20%-80% charge in just 20 minutes using a 175kW DC charger.
  • Platform: Built on Mahindra’s electric-only INGLO platform, which focuses on modularity, efficiency, and sustainability.

Production and Investment

Mahindra plans to deliver these SUVs by Q4 FY24 and is revamping its dealer network in major metro cities ahead of the rollout.

  • Manufacturing: Aims to produce 10,000 EVs per month by March 2025 at its Pune facility.
  • Investment: Allocating ₹4,500 crore from its ₹16,000 crore EV budget for FY22-FY27 to focus on product development, technology, and scaling operations.

Battery Technology

The 59kWh battery packs use blade cells with a cell-to-pack design, leveraging LFP chemistry sourced from Chinese manufacturer BYD Auto.

With the BE 6e and XEV 9e, Mahindra is set to challenge competitors like Hyundai’s Creta EV, offering a bold step forward in India’s EV landscape.
